Paintings from Town Hall

An exhibit of rare artwork depicting the history of Provincetown

April 1 to November 30, 2009

The exhibition features the 1915 masterpiece by Charles W. Hawthorne, “The Crew of the Philomena.”  Other works on display are by artists Max Bohm, Frederick Judd Waugh, William Halsall and George Elmer Browne.  Hawthorne established the Cape Cod School of Art in 1899 and taught hundreds of artists who traveled to Provincetown to study with him until his untimely death in 1930 at the age of 58.  Bohm was Hawthorne’s teaching assistant.
